In the end, the love of God is all that remains…

Some people have fears to speak about the end of the world. To many people the end of the world is tragic and the topic of the final judgment is a sensitive topic for many, but for the man and the woman of faith, the “judgment” of God begins and occurs in every moment of the life: "I'm at the door and knock" says the Lord (Rev 3:20). He dearly loves us and wants us to make an expression of their love to one another. Everything that has nothing to do with this, is outdated, is like a tinsel. Every day of our life, Jesus is trying to prepare us, his followers, for the final judgment.

Throughout our lives and around us, there is a much tinsel and many injustices. Human labor is not worth the economic fruits, nor the appreciation that we have other, better if the human person is made love.

This donation really so many people around us in their daily work, and that is not valued in the “market” will not be lost, because it remains forever in the heart of God.

Over the last 20 centuries, across the generations that have lived, men and women and children have heard the different readings of this topic proclaimed from pulpits around the world, and recognized in some way the things l of their own times. Every age has had its cataclysms as typhoons and hurricanes, its wars and uprisings.

For us, it may be that cable television and the Internet now make it all more immediate and instantaneous. Everything seems to unfold in our own living rooms—or on our smartphones.

And so it may be that the dire words of the scriptures matter more to us now. The warnings sound more urgent. Yet, every generation has needed the love of Jesus our savior.

We need to remember just how fleeting and impermanent everything around us really is. All that remains is the love of Christ who gave himself for us to save us.

The Gospel tells us that Jesus promises his followers abundant sufferings and persecutions. If they bear the sufferings for Christ’s name they will earn the true life, the eternal life of heaven. For this reason the Church wants us to examine ourselves regarding the response we have to such circumstances. We are invited to seek and find him in all things, in every person, in every place, in every experience.

So, we are called upon to prepare ourselves for the future by loving and serving others at every possible occasion. We are called to persevere in our living faith and look forward in hope. The true and final story will begin when we judge the Love to one and all. In the end, the love of God is all that remains. That love is reciprocal; God has loved his human creatures and awaits a loving response. The Virgin Mary is the woman who has loved, let us ask her to teach us to live each day loving.

Father Alfredo.
